Carolina Serpa Marques was born in 1966, lives and works in Porto. Self-taught artist, from a very early age she showed great inclination towards painting.

While studying at high school, she made charcoal portraits.

In 1989 she graduated in Law at the Catholic University of Porto. At the same time, she carefully studied some of the great masters of painting, with special emphasis on Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Monet. During this period, she made several portraits in charcoal, pastel, watercolor and began to develop the technique of oil painting.

She practiced law from 1989 to 1991, when she started his activity as a professor of Public International Law and Community Law at the Lusíada University of Porto.

Despite her involvement in class and the performance of her tasks as a mother, she never failed to perform painting work by order: portrait, landscape and painting based on photographs.

From 2010, he started to dedicate herself almost entirely to painting, preferably using oil and acrylic.

In addition to orders, she has held numerous exhibitions, in Portugal and abroad. It is represented in some national public collections and in numerous national and foreign private collections.

She has worked in collaboration with furniture and decoration companies, executing originals of her own and adapted reproductions of Portuguese painting and tiles.

In 2016, her collection on festivals and pilgrimages in Portugal was used in the booklet for the album “Arrebenta a Festa” by Portuguese singer Roberto Leal.

Her themes are quite varied. In addition to the portrait and the human figure, music and musical movement are important themes. Since 2011, she has developed a collection dedicated to Portugal’s festivals and pilgrimages. There are also works dedicated to fado and classical music and ballet.

She also paints everyday scenes, rural and urban landscapes and symbolic / magical realism.
